Adios 2023

Aah! Just a few hours before I bid goodbye to 2023. As I look back, and like I always say, it was a roller coaster ride. But a different one this time. It was challenging, tiresome and I could feel the burnout by the time October crept in. But like I said it was different. Although feeling incomplete and unsatisfied, I’ve also had some self-awareness and reality check moments.

My biggest blessing this year was visiting family and friends in India after a gap of four years. Four years of hugs, laughter, back-slapping and more hugs; all cramped into four weeks. I felt time stop somewhere. Days turned to nights, seasons changed and I fell into the clutches of aimless scrolling, of day-dreaming, high levels of procrastination, while also having the constant need to keep doing something but it would always be irrelevant to the things I needed to get done. I also did not want to write. And then just on a whim, I took up a challenge – Yoga.

With yoga, my self awareness grew. I realised I need to stop; not slow down, just stop. I decided to take a holiday. To do nothing. I decided to get out with zero plans and just go with the flow. I needed to give way to the zillion thoughts swimming across my head. It was a horrid 31 degrees and I wont deny complaining and regretting this trip. But in that whingeing mode, when I heard the raucous laughter of the Kookaburra, something changed. I took out my book and started to write. I don’t know if I will be consistent, but I do know I have made a resolution (doing this after eons) to write. No matter if it is just penning down thoughts or writing email-letters, I will write. I will give way to the many thoughts on paper. Because that is what makes me happy. It makes me feel free. Other than petting and giving belly-rubs to doggos of course!

Now looking forward to 2024 with a renewed burst of energy. Watch this space for more!
