Places to eat
A balanced diet is food in both hands!!
Fiona and myself totally go by this mantra. Pondicherry has some amazing food options. The much hyped Baker Street definitely tops the list. Be it quiches, sandwiches, rolls or any other food item, it will be served fresh. Not to mention, all the food items are delicious. Don’t forget to pick up some macaroons. It was a sweet treat indeed!
New Banana Café comes second on my list. Situated in the by-lanes of MG road, this rooftop café is hidden in a mansion. We had some delicious salted crêpes and lemonade. Although they have a limited menu, the food portion is good and delicious, and the prices are pocket friendly. Not to mention, a lovely ambience there.
Villa Shanti is another must-go-to place. Located in the heart of White Town, it consists of a restaurant, café and rooms to stay. The ambience of the place gives you a feeling of sitting in a western restaurant. Although we did not find anything exciting on the menu (and it’s expensive too), we highly recommend the desserts – Colonel and Crème Caramel.
Chettinad food at Anjappar restaurant (situated on the ground floor of Devis Grand hotel) is a must try. The most renowned food from the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu, the food was worth every penny spent. Prepared with a variety of freshly ground spices, the main course is usually had with rice or rice based accompaniments such as dosa.
